5 Tips to Kickstart Your Google Adwords Campaign

If I had a penny for every time I gave up on Google Adwords only to come back to it again, I’d be a very rich man. A lot of money can wasted very easily using Google Adwords if you don’t fully understand what you’re doing. I’ve wasted copious amounts of money on various campaigns that have brought me nothing, except for credit card debt.

I want to share with you 5 tips that will increase your likelihood of success and hopefully prevent you from making the same mistakes that I did. 5 tips you can use to outclass your competition include:

  1. Use a “?” in your title. Google has a lot of rules of what you can and can’t in your ads. They won’t let you include a “!” for example in your title, however the one thing Google does allow in your title is a “?” Ask a question wherever possible. This will really help your ad stand out from the crowd.
  2. Use capital letters at the start of each word in your ad – Again, Google has rules against the use of capital letters in advertisements. They won’t allow full capital letters the whole way throughout the text however they do allow a capital letter at the start of each word in your ad. All the top gurus recommend using capital letters at the start of each word, are you gonna bet against them?
  3. Use capital letters at the start of each word in your domain name. To make your domain name stand out as much as possible and to place emphasis on the beginning of each word this a highly effective strategy.
  4. Bid on odd numbers rather than round numbers. Everyone is bidding on round numbers. If you bid on the numbers in between, this will give you the little edge that may very well take your Adwords campaign to the next leve.
  5. Find cheap keyword search terms related to your product. Think outside the box and come up with low cost per click keyword terms that are related to your product. One example of this is by finding books that are related to your keyword search terms. From the books you find, you could focus on the title of the book or authors name to be a new keyword addition to your Google Adwords campaign.

After all is said and done, the most important thing to maintain continually focus on is testing. Test one thing at a time to see which works best and then move onto the next test.

    Find Cheap Keywords

Google adwords has become very expensive these days on the majority of popular keyword terms. It's time to start thinking outside the box with keywords related to your niche. I explained above the idea that you find books related to your product and use the title of the book or the authors name as a keyword.

Let me elaborate - What you want to do here, is firstly come up with your list of keywords. As an example I'm going to use the word lead generation. Let's say one of your main keywords is lead generation. If we bid on Google Adwords for the keyword lead generation it's likely to cost a few dollars per click. I don't know about you but that's a bit too expensive for my liking. Of course if you have a product that's converting this may not be a problem, but if your predominantly building a list of hot and hungry prospects, you want to build your list using the lowest price keywords.

Going back to our keyword term "lead generation" - to find books or authors you can usi, visit Amazon and search for the term "lead generation." With any luck a list of books will pop up that we can potentially use as our keyword. Next you want to be sure that the authors name or book titile is actually searched for on a regular basis. There is not point adding a keyword that no-one is looking for.

You can visit sites like Free Keyword Tracker or Google's Keyword Tool. Simply enter these search terms you find on Amazon to see if anyone is searching for them.

Go throught this process each time for all your keywords and you'll up with a list of relevant searched for keywords that are far cheaper than the actual keyword you have listed.

    Google Keywords Too Expensive?

If you're finding it difficult to find keywords that are within your price range, then it might be worth focusing on the Google content network. The content networt doesn't worry about whether you have a good quality score like the keyword search terms do and is generally much cheaper than bidding on specific keyword terms.

On thing I would like to point out however, is you don't expect to have a good click through rate. You're click through rate is likely to be really bad, but that doesn't matter, so long as you're getting cheap traffic back to your website.

Always ensure you set a maximum daily budget that is well within what you're prepared to spend each day. I've been stung with this one before, thinking I'd set a higher budget than I wanted to spend and make sure I checked back shortly to see how it was going. Next think you know, I checked back a little later than I was expecting an my entire budget was gone on crappy keywords I wasn't expecting to get a lot of clicks from.

Always set your boundaries before you begin and also make sure you lower your maximum bid per click in the content network. You generally should be able to buy traffic at a much cheaper rate than what you would expect to pay advertising on specific keywords.
